Nine Things to do on a Bench

Grainger Town Public Seating, Newcastle City Centre.

This was a collaborative project working with landscape architects Insite Environments and writer Julia Darling to create public seating including artworks and words in glass, steel and light.

This was a new and innovative use of glass in public spaces, particularly for seating, not seen before in city centres.

The seats, entitled ‘Nine Things to do on a Bench’ are situated in the Grainger Town area of the city and were commissioned as part of the city’s regeneration policy.

The ‘things to do on a bench’ include the words Read, Kiss, Eat, Wait, Meet, Collect, Rest, Talk and Think.
