Glass seat, Gateshead 

 

Curved laminated 19mm glass seats with stainless steel up stands, with curved glass back rest 1.2m high at one end sloping to 800mm at the other.

The piece was commissioned by Gateshead Council under the auspices of Anna Pepperall, Curator of Public Art, to celebrate the Council being awarded ‘Client of the Year’. The council received a sum of money as part of the award. A decision was taken to use the money to fund an artist to design a seat to be located outside the Civic Centre in Gateshead.

Sandblasted words run down one edge of the curved glass back, including the Council moto ‘With her feet on the ground and her head amidst the clouds’.
